💃  Thiruvaathira — Traditional Circle Dance

Performed in white-and-gold Kasavu attire

Watch gracefully choreographed folk dances performed in traditional white-and-gold attire (Kasavu). Historically danced in honor of Lord Shiva, Thiruvaathira celebrates grace, harmony, and sisterhood.

🍲  Onasadhya — The Grand Feast

20+ dishes, served on banana leaves

The ultimate highlight of Onam. Onasadhya is a multi-course, all-vegetarian banquet traditionally served on banana leaves — over 20 unique dishes ranging from mild coconut stews and aromatic lentil curries to tangy pickles and sweet payasam. A true culinary journey. Never eaten a Sadhya before? Our volunteers are happy to guide you.

Do I need to be Indian or a MAALA member to attend?

No. Everyone in the Greater Lansing community is warmly invited to attend, celebrate, and enjoy the food and culture.

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

Come as you are. Many attendees wear traditional Indian attire such as sarees or kurtas, but casual or semi-formal Western clothing is completely welcome.

Is this event family-friendly?

Yes — it's a family-first event. Note that the Chenda Melam drumming can be quite loud; families with infants or young children may prefer a break in the cafeteria area during the drum performance.

Is the food spicy?

Not at all. Onasadhya dishes emphasize aromatic coconut, mild lentils, yogurt, and gentle spices rather than fiery heat. There are plenty of mild, comforting dishes for all palates and ages.

Can I buy Sadhya tickets at the door?

We strongly recommend booking online in advance. Venue capacity and food-preparation numbers are set before the event, so door tickets may not be available if we sell out.
